Through his RETIMMUNEFUNCTION project, funded by the ERC, Dr Henrique Veiga Fernandes, focusing on the functioning of immune cells, discovered that some proteins - called neurotrophic factors - have a boosting effect on the HSCs expansion when introduced in culturing media.
