SET-Plan Conference 2019 - R&I in the energy sector, to enhance European industrial leadership - 13 November 2019, Helsinki

The event will begin on the afternoon of 13 November with technical visits. Events - NUTRISHIELD project 1st workshop on Optimized nutrition for infants and lactating mothers - 26 September 2019, Valencia, Spain

[Source: Research & Innovation] NUTRISHIELD is an EU funded H2020 project. NUTRISHIELD aims at creating a personalised platform for the young. The platform will consist of novel methods & techniques, which analyse a wide range of biomarkers related to nutrition and health disorders. Based on findings, the platform then uses ICT, by expanding existing nutrition assistive mobile apps, in order to provide feedback and steering people towards a better nutrition. This takes into account the way each person responds to different nutrients and food types, by also analysing phenotype, genome expression, microbiome composition, health condition, mental & psychological condition, as well as financial capabilities for procuring food. NUTRISHIELD organises its 1st pilot workshop on Thursday, September 26, 2019 in Valencia, Spain at Health Research Institute La Fe, Hospital La Fe (HULAFE) Tower A-Auditorium (online at bit.ly/2kqD6pV). The workshop focuses on one of the NUTRISHIELD use cases, that of Personalised nutrition of lactating mothers, aiming at augmenting the nutritional value of human milk (HM). Workshop on adaptation measures for Climate Change and Health in Europe - 24 September 2019, Brussels / RTD Building ORBN

[Source: Research & Innovation] The Group of Chief Scientific Advisors (GCSA) provides the College of Commissioners with independent scientific advice on specific policy issues. Their Scientific Opinions are informed by evidence reviews. The GCSA intends to develop an Opinion on the topic of climate change-related health impacts in Europe. The Opinion will focus on adaptation measures, which could effectively strengthen the resilience of the European health in view of climate change, with special regard to vulnerable groups, regions and the urban environment, considering specifically impacts from vector-borne infectious diseases and the combined effect of climate change (especially heat waves) and air pollution. The workshop is a second workshop on the theme « Adaption to impacts of Climate Change on Health”. These workshops are organised in order to solicit expert knowledge to support the writing on a scientific opinion on the topic. In a first workshop, the different impacts from climate change on health were analysed. In this second workshop, the aim is to focus more specifically on possible adaptation measures, rather than the impacts themselves. Insights from a preliminary review of literature will be discussed with key experts in the field, with the Advisors responsible for the opinion and with representatives of relevant Commission services.

Sustainable Food - A systems approach for EU Policy - 19 November 2019, Brussels, Belgium

[Source: Research & Innovation] At this event, we will examine the need for a systems approach to EU food policy including the tensions between agro-ecological approaches and advocates of ‘sustainable intensification’, the need for enhanced biodiversity and steady crop yields, new systems for environmental land management and public engagement in this process. Our wider picture will consider how EU agricultural trade policy and trade governance will need to be reconsidered in order to play a positive role in creating an EU-wide sustainable food system. Our proposed system needs concerted action across governments, an interdisciplinary approach and collaborative policy solutions. The White Rose Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York have key expertise in the benefits of creating sustainable food systems and this event will present their policy recommendations from a UK and EU perspective. Science Café with Luděk Hynčík - 3 October 2019, Brussels, Belgium

[Source: Research & Innovation] Czech Liaison Office for Research, Development and Innovation (CZELO) and its partners are pleased to announce that the fifteenth Science Café, an unconventional open discussion with scientist, will take place on 3 October 2019 in the Pilsen House in Brussels. Our guest will be Luděk Hynčík, the Vice-Rector for Research and Development and vice director of the New Technologies – Research Centre at the University of West Bohemia. He is also vice president of the International Federation of Automotive Engineering Societies (FISITA) and Visiting Professor at the Tianjin University of Science & Technology, China. His research interests include human body modelling, biomechanics and mechanics of discrete systems. He focuses on virtual human body models used for injury analysis related to vehicles impact.
