International Conference on Sustainable Smart Manufacturing - 20-22 October 2016, Lisbon, Portugal

[Source: Research & Innovation] S2M 2016 is a three days conference conjointly organised by the Faculty of Architecture, University of Lisbon, and The University of Manchester, with a wide variety of plenary and parallel sessions and inspiring keynote speakers, aiming to foster transdisciplinary research and innovation in the fields of manufacturing, design, architecture and construction, with a focus on a new culture of eco-design and innovation, towards smarter and sustainable manufacturing systems. The European Commission recently adopted an ambitious strategy called Europe 2020 to spur a smart, sustainable and inclusive growth, fostering knowledge, innovation, education and a digital society. The innovation challenge will drive a global systemic transformation, bringing forward new business opportunities and fostering prosperity in a world of finite resources. A new culture of greater resource efficiency and disruptive innovation will require new technologies, processes and materials. Moving towards a circular economy is a framework for future transformation, an opportunity to rethink and redesign the future to address today´s fundamental challenges, from how we use natural resources, to the way we design and manufacture products, through recycling and re-use towards a zero-economy waste and society.
