Treatment for late-stage prostate cancer patients: getting closer to a solution (via ERC)

Prostate cancer is fuelled through the activation, by the hormone testosterone, of a specific protein called androgen receptor. To halt the progression of the disease, drugs are used to inhibit this receptor. However, after a few years, patients become resistant to the treatment, due to mutations and other modifications in the protein. By studying its 3D structure and its motions, ERC grantee Prof. Xavier Salvatella is looking for new cancer therapies that would bypass these mutations.

STI days 2016 - 10-12 May 2016, Vietnam (via Research & Innovation)

The ASEAN-EU STI Days bring together researchers, scientists, science policy makers, innovative companies, and other stakeholders from ASEAN and EU countries for a yearly three-day conference on science, technology, and innovation issues and bi-regional co-operation in these fields. The ASEAN‐EU Science, Technology and Innovation Days (STI Days) are initiated by SEA‐EU‐NET as a biregional forum for cooperation activities between Europe and Southeast Asia. The STI Days are open to all actors and stakeholders in the fields of research, development and innovations, thus giving them the opportunity to build their network, discuss, and engage in exchanging on topics of common interest and explore perspectives for new cooperation. A new philosophy will be behind the STI Days for 2016—strong focus on academic/industry collaboration. The number of scientific workshops and expert sessions on various topics – like infectious diseases, water, food, energy nexus, metrology, ASEAN Economic Community and innovation – is expected to amount to 15 and the number of participants ranges between 300-400, mainly from Southeast Asia and Europe. The STI Days are an ideal occasion for networking and exchange of ideas in thematic areas like Health, Environment, Water, Food Security & Safety or Innovation.
