THE CONTEXT OF CHANGE AND THE MOVE FROM ANALOGUE TO DIGITAL - 13-14 May 2015, Ankara, Turkey (via Research & Innovation)

In the 21st century, the world faces epochal changes which affect every part of society, including the arenas in which Cultural Heritage (CH) is made, held, collected, curated, exhibited, or simply exists. The workshop will be the framework to understand this context of change and the impact of the move from analogue to digital. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss and answer key questions such as: How can CH institutions renew and remake themselves? How should an increasingly diverse society use our CH? How may the move from analogue to digital represent a shift from traditional hierarchies of CH to more fluid, decentred practices? How, then, can the EU citizen, alone or as part of a community, play a vital co-creative role? What are the limitations of new technologies in representing, promoting and transmitting CH? How can CH become closer to its audiences of innovators, skilled makers, curators, artists, economic actors? The event is organised by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism in the framework of the RICHES project.

On this occasion, participants will have the opportunity to assess innovative initiatives, access up-to-date information, discuss market trends and envision possible synergies. Key stakeholders from the energy efficiency value chain have already expressed their interest in joining the event. An attendance of around 200 participants, coming from Europe and other regions of the world, is expected. This call for contributions invites interested parties in presenting recent results and innovative work on energy efficiency at building, district, and city levels.

The ‘grand debate’ will highlight the role that both JPIs and the EU countries taking part in them could play to tackle this societal challenge. This conference is one of the EU Research and Innovation events addressing global food security and nutrition at Expo Milano 2015.

Research Headlines - Wireless charging to boost take-up of electric cars? (via Research & Innovation)

Electric vehicles have long been heralded as the future of transportation. They are relatively cheap to run, don't depend on declining oil stocks and don't release nasty emissions into the environment. But their initial cost, together with the inconvenience of finding charging points, is keeping electric vehicles in the showroom. EU-funded researchers are finding answers to these challenges with studies into the feasibility of wireless charging in public spaces.
