GLOSS event - GLobal Ocean Social Sciences - 5-6 November 2019, Brest, France

[Source: Research & Innovation] The United Nations General Assembly has declared the decade 2021-2030 as the « Decade of Ocean Sciences for Sustainable Development ». The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO is in charge of submitting a programme for this decade. To this purpose, a series of international events, workshops and symposia are organized to contribute to the work of IOC. In this context, the Ocean University Initiative has proposed to the MARE conference in June 2019 to organize an international event, between conference and workshop. The aims are to gather researchers in the human and social sciences, in all their diversity, to identify central issues and conditions for the involvement of the social sciences in the UN initiative. The event, under the name GLOSS (GLobal Ocean Social Sciences), has been labelled « Ocean Decade Event » by the IOC. There will be 6 brainstorming sessions organized in small groups, 6 to 8 people around 1 table with a maximum of 120 participants. Each group will be invited to discuss on series of thematic, disciplinary and methodological questions with the aim of co-creating a ground-breaking report that will be submitted to the Executive Planning Group to be held in January 2020.

Events - ENERI - Project Final Conference - 28 October 2019, Brussels, Belgium

[Source: Research & Innovation] At its final conference on 28th and 29th of October at the MCE Conference & Business Centre in Brussels (Belgium) the EU-funded Horizon 2020 project ENERI brings together leading ethics experts, researchers, policy makers, representatives from industry, research funding organizations, civil society and other stakeholders to disseminate the concepts and products developed during the three-years term of the project. ENERI as a network of networks focused on the overlapping issues of research ethics (RE) and research integrity (RI). The ENERI consortium worked out recommendations on how to harmonize the daily practice for research ethics committees and research integrity offices.Furthermore, they developed a hub for training materials in RE and RI and the ENERI expert database, an e-community from and for experts in RE and RI. The ENERI final conference also includes a SATELLITE EVENT of the EU Member States based Mutual Learning Exercise (MLE) on research integrity. The results of this MLE will be presented.

Events - Fast growing mid-sized firms in Europe. Evidence from the RISIS-Cheetah database - 24 October 2019, Brussels, Belgium

The European Research Infrastructure for Science, technology and Innovation policy Studies (RISIS) will focus on European mid-size firms, with a half-day presentation and discussion around evidence from RISIS Cheetah data. Massimiliano Guerini, representative of Politecnico di Milano (Polimi) in RISIS project and Cheetah access manager and Roberto Camerani, Research Fellow at Science Policy Research Unit of University of Sussex, will like to present a category of firms that may be relevant for policy debate: Cheetah firms. "Cheetah firms are medium-sized firms that experienced exceptional growth. These firms can play a key role in fostering economic growth and new job creation. [Source: Research & Innovation] The Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture, with support from the European Commission through Horizon 2020, is organising a conference on gender equality in research and innovation on 23–24 October 2019.This event marks 20 years since the first European Commission Communication on Women in Science and the follow-up founding of the Helsinki Group on Gender in Research and Innovation, which launched the EU action in this area.The two-day event is held under the Finnish Presidency of the European Union. It will bring together top policymakers and participants from the research and higher education community, research funding institutions , innovation actors, the digital and tech industry, and NGOs.The aim of the conference is to take stock of progress made, with a focus on institutional change, and discuss current challenges, with a view to reshaping our EU policy objectives on gender equality in R&I ahead of Horizon Europe and the future ERA. The two-day event will culminate in the publication of a co-created Helsinki Call for Action.Registration is free of charge, but mandatory.
