[Source: Research & Innovation] The European Commission is organizing a Conference entitled ‘Steel and Coal: a New Perspective’ at DG RTD on 28 March 2019 in Brussels. After a European political introduction, the first keynote speeches will deal with Steel and Coal in a forward-looking perspective. The speakers will address the themes of architecture, steel 4.0, energy, electric mobility, innovation, technology and socio-economic challenges. The Conference will offer the opportunity to discuss the preliminary results of the Expert Group on Monitoring and Assessment of RFCS, the Research Fund for Coal and Steel. Stakeholders will also have the possibility to give their opinions on these results. The last session of the Conference will explore the issues of steel in the global value chains and of coal regions in transition. Finally, the opportunities offered by RFCS, Horizon 2020 and the upcoming Horizon Europe and Innovation Fund will be presented in the conclusions. Due to the limited size of the meeting room and for security reasons, the conference will be by invitation only.
