Informational Post: Altitude training- this is a short clip from our run up at Mt Lowe today (5,558ft) let me clear up some things for those who are confused- you CANNOT achieve true altitude training with an elevation mask- the only way is to actually train in the altitude. Why? Well, scientifically speaking- the reason it's harder to breathe at higher elevations is due to the fact that the ratio of O2 to other gases (C20, CO, etc) is different than the ratios at lower levels. When you are wearing a mask- you are restricting ALL of the air- you are NOT CHANGING THE RATIO OF GASES. now- what this will do is cause you to use your secondary respiratory muscles (scalene) when you are using a mask- which actually causes upper crossed syndrome especially since most people already use their secondary breathing muscles as opposed to their diaphragm.... Whereas when you are actually at a high elevation- you use your diaphragm to pull in large amounts of air so that your alveolar sacks can get the oxygen they need. This isn't opinion- this is scientific fact and the great thing about science is..... SCIENCE> opinion. So I hate to say that elevation masks are long term more detrimental to your breathing patterns and your posture than you may know. If you want to get a higher V02 Max, or better endurance- take a drive up some mountains and do your training there. #aceperformancetraining #personaltraining #elevationtraining #exercise #fitness #getfit #pasadena #california #science #functionalfitness #hike #brooks #run #fitfam #fitspo #heartgains #spartanrace #travel #motivate #inspire #fibrowarrior #snow #spoonie #findyourstrength by inkedwarriorwoman
